NOT ALL THAT GLITTERS IS GOLD | 2024

ESTAR + TomaziCabral

SP-Arte 2024 Launch

With an enormous power of seduction due to its color and shine, gold has attracted humans since the beginning of time, who play with this material, using it for a variety of purposes, not only as an ornament, but in medicine, computing or even as a valuable currency in the financial market.

Brazil, one of the regions of the world that was most blessed with this metal, had its history marked by its abundant existence, and the consequences of its extraction left marks of pain and greed, going beyond the beautiful baroque works and the jewelry made for the Portuguese Crown.

Gold is associated with divine principles – the golden ratio points to perfection – but it also refers to status, power, wealth, the pursuit of profit and, equally, beauty.

Here, worked together with a natural fiber made from wheat, an “imperfect” and unexpected material, hand-woven in the South of Brazil by women from the countryside and sewn by machine, one by one, in the simplest and most subtle way, it creates a counterpoint between what we see and what we want to see. Its beauty and shine on strange and welcoming pieces remind us of glory and comfort, sophistication and simplicity. With individually embroidered and crafted creations, like true haute couture, Nicole Tomazi and Sergio Cabral once again play at work or work at play, and ask us to question the real meaning of gold.

The message is simple and clear: it is not always what it seems, but in reality, it doesn't matter. After all, we can define our gold in many different ways. Perhaps the gold in this space is the straw and the entire construction of this message that brings so much delight to our eyes. We love a sparkle and we want a party to take us away from all the crises we have been experiencing in the world and allow us to dream of a better world, even if only for a few minutes.

Enjoy!
